Black Bloggers Celebrate Juneteenth with a Virtual Cookout

It’s glorious to see the widespread celebration of Juneteenth. It wasn’t until I moved to DC as an adult that I learned about Juneteenth and began celebrating it eight years ago. Even then, it didn’t feel as widespread as it does now.

It’s beautiful to see more and more Black people telling stories and sharing the history of our food and culture in this country. More than 40 black creators contributed to this collaborative menu as a Freedom Day tribute.

“For black people in America, Juneteenth is our Independence Day. Given this occasion, it represents an opportunity to reflect on the resilience of our ancestors, who not only survived but thrived against all odds. We come together to celebrate great food grounded in recipes passed down and represent that same spirit of resilience, creativity, and ingenuity.” Marwin Brown, Food Fidelity
